Tommy’s Legal Service may accept payment by bank transfer, Wise, Stripe, PayPal, or other available methods depending on the case.
The applicable handling fee differs depending on the payment method. The final amount, due date, and payment method stated in the quotation or invoice will prevail.
Basic Payment Policy
As a general rule, 50% of the professional fee is paid in advance as a retainer. The remaining balance is paid upon approval, before delivery, or before completion of the relevant service.
Government fees, revenue stamps, postage, translation fees, certificate issuance fees, transportation, and other actual costs may be charged separately.
Important: Work commencement, application filing, document delivery, and delivery of residence cards or other important documents are generally handled after payment confirmation. Any exceptional arrangement must be confirmed on a case-by-case basis.
Available Payment Methods
Bank Transfer in Japan
For payments from within Japan, bank transfer is the standard payment method. No additional handling fee is added by our office for domestic bank transfer.

Wise may be available for overseas or multi-currency payments. When Wise is used, a 5% handling / processing fee is generally added.

For consultation fees and certain invoices, we may provide a Stripe card payment link. When Stripe is used, a 5% handling / processing fee is generally added.
Generally +5%PayPal
For clients outside Japan or clients who prefer card payment, PayPal may be available depending on the case. When PayPal is used, a 5% handling / processing fee is generally added.

Detailed account information will be provided in the quotation or invoice.
- Bank transfer fees charged by the sending bank are borne by the client.
- When making a transfer, please enter the invoice number or applicant’s name where possible.
- If the payer’s name is different from the applicant or invoice recipient, please notify us in advance.
- Please refer to the quotation or invoice for detailed account information.
Processing / Handling Fees
- Bank transfer: no additional handling fee is added by our office.
- Wise: a 5% handling / processing fee is generally added.
- Stripe: a 5% handling / processing fee is generally added.
- PayPal: a 5% handling / processing fee is generally added.
- International transfer fees, intermediary bank charges, exchange rate losses, and receiving bank fees are borne by the client.
Depending on the payment method, the actual amount received by our office may be lower than the invoice amount. In such cases, we may ask you to pay the shortfall separately.
Payment Timing
Initial Retainer
As a general rule, 50% of the professional fee is paid as an initial retainer at the time of engagement. After payment confirmation, we start case management, document review, and preparation work.
Remaining Balance and Actual Costs
The remaining balance, additional fees, actual costs, Immigration fees, and other expenses are paid upon approval, before delivery, or before completion of the service. Delivery is generally made after payment confirmation.
Important Notes
- The payment amount, due date, and payment method stated in the quotation or invoice will prevail.
- If the payer’s name is different from the applicant or invoice recipient, please notify us in advance.
- Payment confirmation may take time. For urgent cases, please make payment as early as possible.
- If there is an unpaid balance, delivery of documents, residence cards, electronic documents, or other items may be withheld.
- Late payment damages may apply to overdue amounts in accordance with the invoice or engagement terms.
