Tommy’s Legal Service now accepts international payments via Wise for overseas clients, foreign companies, overseas sending organizations, and family members supporting applicants in Japan.

This new payment option is intended to make it easier to pay consultation fees, professional service fees, and other costs related to immigration procedures, status of residence applications, foreign employee support, and Specified Skilled Worker matters in Japan.

Why We Have Added Wise as a Payment Option

Domestic bank transfers in Japan are convenient for clients who already have a Japanese bank account. However, clients outside Japan may face practical difficulties, such as not having a Japanese bank account, high international transfer fees, long processing times, and differences between the invoice amount and the amount actually received.

By using Wise, clients may be able to reduce some of the cost and administrative burden of international payments, depending on the country, currency, and transfer method. This can be especially useful for clients preparing visa-related procedures from overseas, family members supporting an applicant in Japan, foreign companies, or organizations involved in Specified Skilled Worker and foreign employee matters.

Common issues with international payments
  • The client does not have a Japanese bank account.
  • International bank transfer fees may be high.
  • Transfers may take several business days.
  • Intermediary bank fees may reduce the final received amount.
  • Payment management may be complicated for overseas companies or sending organizations.

Main Situations Where Wise Payments May Be Used

Wise payments may be used in the following situations:

  • Payment of consultation fees from overseas
  • Payment by foreign nationals or their family members for immigration-related support
  • Payment by foreign companies requesting services in Japan
  • Payment by overseas sending organizations or recruitment-related companies
  • Payment for Specified Skilled Worker, Registered Support Organization, or foreign employee support matters
  • Alternative payment method when a Japanese domestic bank transfer is difficult

Domestic bank transfers in Japan remain available. Wise is an additional option mainly designed for international payments.

How to Use Wise Payments

If you would like to pay via Wise, please inform our office in advance. We will confirm the invoice amount, payment deadline, and payment instructions for each case.

  1. Tell us that you would like to pay via Wise.
  2. We will confirm the invoice amount, payment deadline, and payment instructions.
  3. If necessary, we will provide the relevant Wise payment details individually.
  4. When sending the payment, please include your name, case name, and invoice number whenever possible.
  5. After we confirm receipt of the payment, we will proceed with the consultation, document preparation, or application support.

Important Notes on Fees and Exchange Differences

Wise fees, exchange rates, intermediary bank fees, and the final received amount may vary depending on the sending country, currency, and transfer method.

If the amount received is less than the invoice amount

As a general rule, if the amount received by our office is less than the invoice amount, the shortfall must be paid by the client. If professional fees, government fees, actual expenses, translation fees, or postage are included, an insufficient received amount may delay the start of the work or the delivery of documents.

Before making a transfer, please check the invoice amount, sending currency, sender name, and fee-bearing method. If the payment is made by a company, sending organization, or family member on behalf of the applicant, please include the invoice number or case name so that we can identify the payment correctly.

Wise Payment Does Not Guarantee Immigration Approval

Wise is only an additional payment method.

For immigration procedures in Japan, including status of residence applications, extensions, changes of status, permanent residence applications, and Specified Skilled Worker matters, the Immigration Services Agency examines multiple factors. These include the applicant’s situation, employer information, submitted documents, past residence history, tax and social insurance status, income, and actual activities in Japan.

Therefore, payment by Wise does not guarantee approval. After confirming payment, our office will carefully review the case, explain the practical outlook, provide document guidance, and prepare the necessary explanation letters and supporting documents where appropriate.

Easier Access for Overseas Clients

For clients outside Japan, uncertainty about how to pay can be a barrier to starting a consultation.

By accepting Wise payments, Tommy’s Legal Service aims to make it easier for overseas clients, foreign companies, sending organizations, and family members abroad to access immigration and foreign employee support in Japan.

For Clients Who Wish to Pay via Wise
